I’m very pleased to report that the audiobook of Ignotus (Fringe Worlds #3) is now available. Frankly speaking, I was a little surprised by the release, because – among other things – it came earlier than expected (although I’m certainly not complaining).
Historically, after I approve the audio files, I think there’s usually a message on the audiobook project page that acknowledges said approval. Following that, there’s a note indicating that ACX is conducting it’s quality review. Next, if everything is okay from a quality perspective, the project page states that the audiobook is “Headed to Retail.” Finally, there’s a message on the page declaring that the audiobook is “On Sale.” Altogether, it’s a process that can take several weeks.
I don’t think the process followed those steps this time. (Or rather, they weren’t displayed on the front end and presumably took place behind the scenes.)
Basically, after I approved the files, I believe there was an acknowledgement, and then at some point the project was simply listed as “Completed.” I regularly checked on the status assuming I’d see one of the messages I’d grown accustomed to, but it never happened. The next thing I knew, the audiobook was released. (As previously stated, however, I’m not complaining.)
At a guess, I’d say that ACX/Audible is still refining the audiobook creation process. If so, I hope they also come up with some additional marketing tools for audio, but for now I’m happy to make use of what they give us (e.g., sales, promotions, etc.). Hopefully that will include making one of my titles the Audible Daily Deal one day soon. (Hint, hint, Audible…)
